The post-graduate degrees – MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery), are offered after completion of MBBS in India. The MD programme duration is 3 years in India. After successfully completing a 3 year study and the respective exam, both practical and theoretical; candidate would be conferred with the MD/MS degree.
MD is non surgical but there are some branches where surgery can be part of MD. NEET PG exam is conducted once in a year for admission to Doctor of Medicine (MD), Masters of Surgery (MS) and Postgraduate Diploma (PG diploma).
There are various branches where a MBBS graduate can pursue MS or MD. Every candidate pursuing MD/MS degree course is required to carry out work on a selected research project under the guidance of a recognized post graduate teacher. The results of such a work shall be submitted in the form of a dissertation.
